Wholesome Beginnings to a New Year

Over the last few years I’ve made an effort to feed my family healthier homemade meals, read nutrition labels, and really become aware of what we are putting in our bodies. One area that I’ve slacked on though is paying better attention to what we put on our bodies. This year one of our family resolutions is to become more educated and aware about the products we are using on our skin and hair. It was perfect timing that we got to try out a brand new product from Garnier – Whole Blends Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner, which is paraben free, contains natural extracts, and uses gentle sulfates. Each blend focuses on a unique hair action so you can something perfect for you, according to your needs.garnier whole blends

Since Zara and I are the fussiest when it comes to hair products in our family we both gave the Coconut Oil & Cocoa Butter formula a test drive over the last two weeks. When I first put it in my hair in the shower I did notice that it doesn’t create as many suds as I’m used to (this is because of the gentle sulfates I think), but my hair still felt clean after just one rinse with shampoo. The conditioner is creamy and smells amazing. I kept it on the ends of my hair for about 5 minutes and avoided the roots like I always do, rinsed it out, and then styled as usual (air dry, and then clean up with the straightening iron). I love how soft and light it makes my hair feel, and how non-greasy it is. With this shampoo and conditioner I’m able to go 3-4 days between washes.

What does Zara think? She’s just thrilled that when she comes out of the shower, her super fine hair is not all knotted up, and the combing out process is much easier!

In the past I’ve had some less than impressive experiences with hair care products so I was a bit skeptical going in, but Garnier really has hit on something great here. I don’t take my hair care products lightly, in fact, you could say I’m a little obsessed, but this is a product I’ll be keeping on my shower shelf for sure.

Switching out our shampoo & conditioner for something that is a little gentler and more natural is an easy way to start our journey towards making more conscious choices about the products we are using on our bodies. PS: In case you are wondering, the boys in our house usually don’t comment on the selection of shampoo & conditioner in the shower, their only ask is – we don’t want to smell too flowery. The Coconut Oil & Cocoa Butter scent totally passed the test, if you want to switch out your husband’s shampoo!
