Rainbow Balloon Wall: Holi Photo Backdrop

Recently I found myself scrolling mindlessly through Pinterest (happens all the time), and my scroll stopped on this beautiful rainbow balloon wall by Sweet Lulu blog. Since I’ve been wanting to do something fun & non-messy for for Holi with the kids, my mind instantly went to a photo backdrop. I’m a fan of colours any day, but Holi is of course the day to celebrate the whole rainbow!

This backdrop would be super fun for a Holi party, but it’s also a something you can do for some special themed family photos. I know you are thinking I’m crazy, but it’s so easy. This is one of the those rare DIY projects that gives you maximum return for minimum investment of time & money. Balloons are super affordable and this wall actually comes together very quickly.

RAINBOW BALLOON WALL // HOLI PHOTO BACKDROP: HOW TO

Total transparency, I followed theĀ step-by-step tutorial on the Sweet Lulu site, but I did make some changes to the layout for mine. Since I wanted more colour to show than white balloons, I created colour sections using 4-6 balloons instead of just two. Also, I was a bit from abstract with the placement of my balloons than the original.

A few notes from my experience creating this wall.

[wc_fa icon=”heart-o” margin_left=”” margin_right=”” class=””][/wc_fa] Before putting up the whole wall, stick a few balloons up and make sure your tape stays! On my first attempt I had about a quarter of the wall done when the balloons started falling off!

[wc_fa icon=”heart-o” margin_left=”” margin_right=”” class=””][/wc_fa] I found it helpful to put up all the coloured balloons first and then fill in with white.

[wc_fa icon=”heart-o” margin_left=”” margin_right=”” class=””][/wc_fa] Depending on the quality of your balloons, the wall will last between 2-5 days before balloons start to deflate. It is a real pain to switch out any balloons that deflate, I wouldn’t make the wall to far ahead of your event or photoshoot.

I had so much fun with this photo wall! I think it would be a super-hit for kids at a Holi party!

Do you celebrate Holi? What are your family traditions? I’d love to hear about them, leave me a comment.

PS: You might want to serve gulab jamun cupcakes, or a traditional thandhai at your Holi party!

This could totally be used for other events, or even kid’s parties.
