Easing In & Some Updates…

Hello 2016 & hello blog (and apologies for disappearing for almost 3 weeks). So remember when I took that social media vacation and said I’d be back on the 4th of January? Well apparently I needed a little more time than I thought to recharge, regroup, and string together some words for this post.

So last year – it was one of the best year’s of my life, and career wise it was definitely the most amazing year I’ve ever had. On the flip side, it was also the most challenging for me physically and emotionally. I said yes to so many amazing opportunities, but some days it felt like I was saying no to myself and my family. By mid-December I hit a wall and physically could not keep up the pace I had been moving at for 11.5 months of the year. Taking a break was not really an option, it was a requirement.

Although the purpose of my break was to allow my body time to rest, and my brain time to shut down all the open tabs, I had one other goal in mind; making some hard decisions about the direction of my business(es) and my blog. And to be perfectly honest, there was a small part of me that wondered if I would even make my way back here. Not because I don’t love bloggging, but because I love it too much to do it half-halfheartedly.

Around September last year I started to feel like I was rushing through posts, and just trying to check off days on my blogging schedule, and that just didn’t sit right with me. This is a space I created to record my family recipes, share creative inspiration, and preserve my culture – this is my legacy project, not another item on my to-do list. All these feelings really came to a head around Diwali when I wrote this post. I felt like I was in some sort of race to produce content (with who, I have no idea), and I didn’t like it.

I’m glad to say that taking a few weeks away, and talking through my feelings with some of my closest friends has given me perspective on how I want to move forward with blogging this year.  I’m excited to get back to my original intentions for this blog – which had nothing to do with page views and traffic, and everything to do with history, culture, and writing from the heart.

On that note, you might see a  slow down in posts this month as I gear up for my 5th blogging anniversary, and a mini relaunch of the site on February 14th. I’ll be working on some changes to the actual look and structure of the site, and developing some really fun content. In the meantime, I’ll be reaching into the archives this month and sharing some of my all-time favourite posts, along with some roundups.

PS: Thank you for being a part of the Pink Chai Living journey and allowing me some space in your busy lives and social media feeds, it really does mean the world to me.
