DIY Bollywood Playing Cards for Diwali

One of my favourite parts of Diwali is entertaining and connecting with friends. This year I’m planning on hosting some of my friends for a card night a few days before Diwali, so of course … Bollywood playing cards are a must!

We usually have a family dinner on the actual holiday and end up connecting with our “couple friends” for get-togethers, but I feel like we never celebrate the festive season with my single friends. That’s where the idea of a low-key card night came into my mind. I’ll probably make some of my jhalmuri inspired popcorn, Mr. T can make mocktails (we don’t serve alcohol on Diwali at our place), and the Bollywood tunes will be non-stop.diy bollywood playing cards 4I’ve always found it a bit ironic that playing cards and gambling on Diwali is considered lucky, but gambling and patte (cards) are frowned on the rest of the year. Whether I understand the tradition or not, it’s something I embrace with my kids by playing Go Fish after Diwali dinner, and it’s something I’m excited to share with friends this year.bollywood playing cards, pink chai living{Pehli pehli baar dekha aisa jalwa – this is my favourite Rekha & Amitabh moment!}

Now about these DIY Bollywood Playing Cards; they are literally one of the easiest DIY projects I’ve ever done. The hardest part here was finding good quality pictures of 70’s Bollywood stars. You of course could use more recent pics if you aren’t crazy about Bachchan in his angry young man phase. diy bollywood playing cards 3

All you need to put together a deck of custom playing cards is pictures sized to the back of your cards, scissors, and glue. I used about four different images and mixed them up on the cards. If you are worried about card counting stick to one image on the entire deck. diy bollywood playing cards 5

After I glued the images to the back of the cards I put them into the pages of heavy book overnight to make sure they were really stuck, and prevent curling. diy bollywood playing cards, diwali, pink chai

I can’t believe how much I love this super simple project. It’s such a fun little gift to take to someone’s house for a Diwali get together, or you can even make them as party favours at your place.
