35 Before 35 List

In a few hours I’m turning 33, not a huge number, but for the first time in years (since my 25th birthday in fact), I feel like I’m ‘getting old’, whatever the heck that means anyway. I want my life legacy to be more than; she was a diligent worker and never put her smart phone down, or man that girl sent a lot of tweets – it’s a shame she never visited the Great Wall of China.

Hence the 35 before 35 list. It’s a little narrower than the life list I once did, and a lot more realistic. While I know that trying to complete 35 tasks in 24 months is a bit crazy, everything I’ve chosen represents fun, family, and self-love so I’m sure it will be worth effort…so here we go!

35 Before 35 List:

  1. Make a fascinator and wear it somewhere fancy
  2. Print and organize our family photos – started, maybe 20% complete?
  3. Make a video of my best in the world chai recipe  Done!
  4. Become a really good conversationalist (like really listen to what people are saying) – always working on this!
  5. Host a New Year’s Eve party
  6. Grow a kitchen garden or keep a plant alive – epic fail, killed 4 plants
  7. Learn to make macaronsDone, I took a class!
  8. Repair a broken relationship (there is one person I’d like to make amends with)
  9. Take an outfit photo at the Eiffel Tower
  10. Launch my super secret yet so awesome biz project (sorry, no details yet!)
  11. Buy a real painting – not a print
  12. Create a new family traditionDone x 3
  13. Write a book proposal/find an agent
  14. Teach my kids conversational PunjabiStarted, but a long ways to go
  15. Personalize my home
  16. Complete a Project 365
  17. Learn to do a smoky eye
  18. Start a journey of self-love
  19. Get wrist tattoos
  20. Take really special family photos
  21. Run in a 5K – had to let this one go because of the arthritis in my feet.
  22. Print my own fabric
  23. Take a family vacation
  24. Find my signature cocktail
  25. Watch the Nutcracker BalletI went to see Romeo & Juliet by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet instead 🙂
  26. Unplug for a whole week
  27. Make a personal brand website
  28. Go to a wine tasting
  29. Have High Tea at the Empress Hotel in Victoriaupdate Jan 17 – I did this finally after my 37th birthday though!
  30. Write letters to my kids
  31. Take updated photos in my wedding outfitupdate Aug 17 – I ended up re-inventing my wedding outfits for my cousin’s wedding and doing this!
  32. Buy a new tea set
  33. Get business cards I love giving out
  34. Take a Greek cooking class
  35. Complete 35 random acts of kindness

So now I’m scared, but a good kind of scared…the kind that comes with excitement too! The goals that make me most nervous are; hosting a New Year’s Eve party – I only have two shots at that one, making macarons – I can’t bake to save my life, getting wrist tattoos – I’m a chicken, unplug for a whole week – I’m addicted to being connected. The ones I have no idea how I’ll measure completion for are; being a good conversationalist and truly embracing self-love, I guess I’ll just have to use the honour system when checking those off!

The hardest one though will be #8 – repairing a broken relationship. There is someone in particular that I really want to fix my relationship with and have them back in my life, that may not be a conversation I share on the blog, but it’s one that I definitely need to have.

With that it is time for me to pour myself a glass of wine and put on my fuzzy pj’s so I can wake up one year older and slightly wiser tomorrow!

PS: I also did a 40 by 40 list after finishing this one!

Hey Raj, Wish you a very very happy birthday. Great list of to-do’s. Looking at yours, I started making one for myself too 🙂
And am forcing my DH to have one for himself too. It is truly great fun.
Good luck for your 35 things. And I wish that you repair your broken relationship successfully. Happy Birthday again!!

I think I’m reading this post the day after you wrote it, so happy birthday!!!

Love your list! The years really do sneak up on you. My kids were asking me how old I am and I had to do the math to figure it out. I was surprised to realize I’d be 37 this year.

When I quickly do a mental list of what my list would be, it is kind of scary. Especially those ones where you only have a certain time to complete it.

    2, 4, 7, 9, 10, 11 and 18 are my favourites. And I can help with 31. 🙂

    Happy Birthday!!
And this is a great list! I should have done something like this before I turned 40. Maybe I will aim for 50 before 50 now?? LOL
I’d love to get a wrist tattoo in white ink. have to find a place that will do it though.
good luck on the list – looking forward to seeing you accomplish them.

I will gladly partake in numbers 1, 5, 7 (actually share it since I went to a macaron making class), 9, 17, maybe 19 but I’m pain-adverse, 25, 28, 29 and 34. Okay? I will wait for the invites, Thanks!
